Lion Protecting Girl
class="minus2" style="display:none"> class="minus2" style="display:none"> class="minus2" style="display:none"> Before you post a hateful comment on the video, PLEASE READ THIS!! Then, think before you speak.
That lion's story is a really sad one. He and SEVERAL other big cats were owned by a bad breeder. Then when they didnt want them anymore they were put in a horse trailer crammed in there. HOT, FILTHY, MISERABLE etc. By the time the sanctuary found them a leopard had already died in the horse trailer from the heat and apparently starvation.
The sanctuary rescued them, got them medical care and now they have those huge yards to be in, and that den area.
The beginning of the video the man who runs the sanctuary is pulling the steel bar out that secures the door between the den and yard, so the door could swing open and let the lions out into the yard for the day.
This lion always acts like that if he thinks anyone is going to get near his girlfriend, and so when I wanted a video to show people what a lion in your backyard would be like, I chose to video that lion because I knew he would act like that.
I often hear people say I want a pet tiger or I want a pet lion, I wanted them to see what it was really like and that it is not something they want as a pet.
The state I live in does not have any laws saying people can't own these animals in their own backyards. So, we are trying hard to get a new law passed so people can't have one. I wanted to show people what it would be like having a lion in their neighbor's backyard so they would understand why a new law is important.
In fact that sanctuary has rescued over 30 lions, tigers, cougars & bears from the southern part of our state so i felt it was important to show people that when they buy a cute cuddly cub that that cub grows up quick and then they would have something like that in their backyard.
Because this lion acts like that when anyone walks near where his 'girl' is, I chose to video him.
I promise you we did not in anyway tease or provoke him. We were only there for a couple of minutes and did not do anything at all to tease or provoke him. The sanctuary owner is so protective of this lion's peace and quiet he gave me less than two minutes to get that video. Alll I had to do was walk up there and he acted like that. Again, I assure you there was NO teasing or provoking.
My voice sounds loud because the camera is right at my face, but some of you are misinterpretting it as teasing the lion and we were not. Please notice how gentle the sanctuary owner's voice is as he trying to sooth the lion.
I said what i said because I knew I only had two minutes to get the video. again i chose this lion because I knew he would behave this way, and I wanted people and law makers to see that we do need laws preventing people from having these randomly in their backyards as pets.
Frankly, I am stunned at how many people post rude comments without even reading about the video. Of course we'd prefer lions be in the wild. But when someone else makes a lion captive, raises it in captivity, there just is no safe or affordable way to return it to the wild.
Please help us prevent more lions, tigers, leopards, bears, etc from needing rescues from bad pet owners.
